A Garissa-based non-governmental organisation is now demanding for immediate arrest and prosecution of a middle-aged man who reportedly abducted and married a class six pupil from Sombo Primary School.
Speaking in Garissa town, Hassan Ismail who is Womankind Kenya Children Rights coordinator said it was very unfortunate that the 36-year-old man is still freely roaming, a month after he eloped with the primary school kid.
Ismail noted that such cases discourage other school girls from staying in school to pursue their studies. He, therefore, urged the relevant government agencies to swiftly act and stop early forced marriages.
The girl’s mother said her daughter was rescued and taken to a girls centre in Garissa town by her teachers and the NGO.
The girl’s mother issued that her 13-year-old daughter was playing with her friends when the man grabbed her and forcibly fled away with her.
