The county government of Garissa will have no choice but consider firing nurses who would not have reported to work after seven days, Governor Ali Korane has said. The directive comes after the Council of Governors directed the workers to resume work with immediate effect.
More than 300 striking nurses will be affected following the new order from the government. In an exclusive interview, Ali said that the government will take an action against nurses who will not report to work when that time comes.
“We give the nurses until Monday next week to report to work. We shall decide what course of action to take based on their response,” Korane said, as quoted by Star.
The efforts of the governor to settle the stalemate between the government and nurses did not bear fruits despite reaching out to the officials of the union.
“It has been difficult to find the union officials because they are always in Nairobi. That is why I directed that a letter be written to them spelling out our concerns,” Korane said.
The ongoing strike has caused suffering among residents of Garissa County and its neighborhood.
