A senior member of the Garissa County government has denied claims that some senior county officials are using government resources for campaigning.
County Secretary Mohamud Mursal said in response to claims made by Garissa Jubilee party gubernatorial candidate Ali Korane alleging that County Government resources were being used by politicians for personal use.
Mursal dismissed the allegations terming them as outrageous and meant to give the Jubilee candidate some political mileage.
The county secretary urged those with evidence that resources are being misused should forward to the relevant authorities for action to be taken.
Mursal said that his office wrote a circular on 3 February 2017 to all the staff in Garissa county asking them to remain politically neutral and that they should not indicate support for or opposition for any political party or candidate.
“The politicians should stop issuing outrageous allegations. They should not politicise civil servants and stop dragging them into their campaigns. One needs to provide evidence if they have any for the relevant authorities to investigate,” Mursal said.
Mr Korane had made allegations that some politicians were using county resources to campaign adding that the county secretary, who is charged with guarding the county government assets, will be held personally responsible.
