The residents of Garissa, just like other Kenyans, were blindsided by media reports that controversial lawyer and socio-political commentator Miguna Miguna had been deported Wednesday night aboard a Dubai-bound Emirates flight.

Those who spoke to us could not hide their disappointment saying that the move by state authorities was dictatorial and one that was a violation of Miguna's rights.

''Personally I am very disappointed at what has happened to Miguna Miguna. Look, the court had ordered for him to be presented in court but immigration officials had other ideas. This is unacceptable and there should be consequences against those who orchestrated this injustice,'' Abdihakim Gulo, a resident, says.

''Well, given the no so clean record of Jubilee in respecting court orders, I was not surprised that they could do this. I saw it coming. As Kenyans, we must speak out against this,'' Roba Salim says.

''This is what anarchy looks like. Somalia is unstable today because people don't respect the rule of law. We must not allow that to happen here in Kenya,''Salo Jamal says.

Miguna's deportation adds another twist to a long drama that has gripped the Kenyan public for hours on end.

It would be interesting to see how things pan out in the coming days.
