Garissa Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Hiddi Galgalo has assured residents in Garissa County that enough security will be provided ahead of the August 8 General Election.
Mr Galgalo said that security agencies will beef up security to ensure peace and tranquility prevails during the campaign and election period.
Mr Galgalo was addressing the press at a local hotel after addressing aspiring Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), youth, women and faith leaders drawn from the area.
“Elections come after every five years and go. There are those who will win and lose, It’s not a matter of life and death as has been widely believed. We should all come together as Kenyans and work for the good of this country.”
“Peace has been our core message in all our engagements when meeting with elections stakeholders. We thank other stakeholders who have come in to support us in this noble idea,” said the county commissioner.
Mr Galgalo further urged the aspirants to ensure they conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner as the general elections near.
He urged the residents and the aspirants to continue working closely with the security apparatus and key stakeholder in ensuring that peace prevails during the elections.
“We have managed to bring together all the aspirants where they have taken personal commitment of ensuring that the elections are peaceful. The residents have no excuse to follow suit. We have seen before the youths being misused by self-seeking politicians to cause chaos. I implore upon them to desist from this acts because at the end of it all, they are the ones to lose,” he said.
