Locals of Garissa County have cried foul following the 6:30pm-6:am curfew slapped on them yesterday.
This is after Alshabaab militia attached lodging in Mandera leading to the death of 12 people when they indiscriminately opened fire at a restaurant.
The unprepared locals say the curfew is a big blow for them especially for their daily activities.
According to the curfew, the locals are expected to be at their homes at 6:30pm until 6:30am, which has not gone down well with a number of them who say their daily activities are interfered with.
“To be in my house at 6:30pm is very unfortunate since most of my customers are working class people who come to my shop as from 6:30pm, which means I will not be able to make any sales,” says Andrew Njoroge a business person.
Matatu operators too and students have raised their dissatisfaction.
“For us to close our jobs at 6:30pm is very unfortunate since that is rush hour. Business is at its peak which means business will be affected,” Says Abdul Karim.
The students too have raised their dissatisfaction.
“I will be forced to forego my evening classes to abide by the curfew which has come so early. It is a good thing though the curfew starting at 6pm is the problem,” says Mohamed Salim.
They are hoping the government reconsiders and pushes the curfew to preferably 10pm-6am.
