Hundreds of Garissa residents heeded call by the Kenya Red Cross society to donate blood for Somalia blast victims that claimed over 300 victims and injuries another 500. The Saturday's double car bombing in Mogadishu is the deadliest in Somalia's modern history.The donation drive will run for the next 3 days is expected to raise over 150 pints of blood daily is mainly targeting learning institutions, the business community and local residents. Among those present during the exercise held at Garissa primary school grounds was Abubakar Mohammed of Muslim Youths Association said the youth empathize with their brother and sisters in Somalia. Mohamed urged affluent individuals in the town to donate whatever they can including households that will assist the victims pick up their life. Dubat Hamey an elder in the town said the Garissa community will form a donation kitty that will raise funds for the victims. Hamey urged humanitarian organization in Garissa to support the initiative.He said the Somalia attack should act a uniting factor between the two countries and foster unity among their nationals. “This incident should boost our resolve to fight terror through close coordination and sharing information,” Amey said. County Executive Committee for Trade and Tourism nominee Adow Jubat lauded the residents of Garissa for turning up in large numbers to stand in solidarity with Somalia by donating blood to their brothers and sisters. Jubat said Garissa has suffered a similar predicament when the Garissa University College was attacked where 148 students were killed and Somalia as country offered their assistance. Some of the injured were airlifted to Nairobi and Turkey for specialized treatment. Kenya has sent 11 tones of assorted drugs to assist the victims.
