The recent reports about the murder of one of Al-Shaabab's high-ranking leader, Kuno Gamadhere in Somalia ought to have brought jubilant celebrations to the residents of the area.
The news was never given much attention by the masses despite it featuring massively in the local dailies including the localised vernacular radio stations.
It is common knowledge that if it were in Western countries, say the United Kingdom or Canada, such breaking news would have been feasted if not having a national holiday to mark the victory.
As a united nation, we should be more civilised and take note of even the smallest things that deserve our attention or compliments. We should be happy that the departed souls lost during the terror attack in Garissa University attack are getting a dose justice in their graves.
We must also take our time to acknowledge our security agencies for the peaceful periods we are currently enjoying, for at least the terror attacks have drastically reduced. However, we should be saddened and worried by the recent report from Hans Seidel Foundation that cited our prisons as recruitment dens for the Al-Shabaab members.
The government needs to comprehensively investigate the allegations as a matter of urgency. The findings should be released and necessary action taken.
Of much importance is to reorganise our prisons to offer the much needed correctional services as opposed to the current face of punishment.
