Residents of Garissa County are now calling for the immediate reinstating of Idris Mohamed as the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company managing Director, terming his suspension as political and unfair.
Speaking to the journalists on Saturday in Garissa town, more than 100 residents, who were calling upon reinstating of Mohammed, said that he was sent on a compulsory leave for having differed with the other board members.
Omar Hussein, a resident in Garissa town and also the chairman of Garissa water users association said that the term of the board was to expire in May, and that they have received some information that Mohamed was greatly against the renewal of their terms.
“The board was against him being in office for having refused to sign a Sh200 million rehabilitation project, after he cited irregularities when it came to the awarding of the tenders,” said Hussein.
Omar Hussein, who spoke on behalf of the people, urged Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama to immediately reinstate Mohamed as the director, since the services at the water company were very bad and deteriorating.
“We as residents of Garissa are asking our beloved Governor to reinstate Mohammed so that we can continue to get quality services that we used to get. We are also asking that the ongoing audit be suspended with immediate effect and those who had requested for it to be audited first and investigated,” he added.
Hussein went on to say that since Mohammed was suspended, the services at the water company have gone down, and they no longer get any kind of assistance when they have issues with the water supply in the county.
