Northern Kenya regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh has warned Garissa residents against housing refugees from Daadab camp avoiding repatriation back to Somalia.
Saleh said that it had come to the attention of the authorities that some residents were housing the refugees to avoid the ongoing screening exercises.
He said it is a criminal act for anyone to entertain such acts, noting that culprits found will be dealt with in accordance to the Kenyan laws.
“We have reports of refugees fleeing the camps to escape repatriation. These Somalia refugees have no Identification cards or any other document allowing them to get outside the camps. The government will never hesitate to punish such accomplices of the vice,” he said
Saleh further affirme that Kenya as a country has been generous enough to host the refugees for more than two decades and that time has come for them to shift back and rebuild their country.
“Somalia is now safe and refugees should join their fellow brothers and sisters. Kenya as a country has done its part to great perfection,” he added.
