Some two people have died while three others are admitted at St. Mulumba Hospital in Thika Sub-County after their saloon car was involved in an accident last night.

The accident which occurred at the BAT Junction at around 10pm is said to have been caused by two speeding motorcyclists who were heading to Kiganjo and Kamenu respectively. The motorists allegedly distracted the driver of the car leading to the accident.

According to one of the survivors, Renox Onyango, they were distracted by the bodaboda operators who seemed to head in different directions.

Onyango said that the driver, who died in the incident, tried to stop the vehicle but failed to control it and they consequently rammed into a stationary lorry on the roadside. The car was badly damaged.

He added that the bodaboda operators escaped after the accident as they did not get any injuries.

Thika traffic police commander Apelles Chacha has cautioned bodaboda operators saying that they should check their safety and that of other road users as they have been the major cause of accidents along the Garissa Road.

She noted with concern that most of the operators are not licensed and there will be a crackdown on the same later this week to help tame the accidents.
