The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) seeks to promote local tourism among Kenyans across different destinations around the country. Kenyans are able to explore the spectacular and wonderful places and discover that indeed Kenya is a magical place with many unexplored places.

Garissa County has unchartered sights and sounds that make it simply outstanding. At the North most corner of the Kenyan Coast lays the Boni National Reserve. The reserve derives its name from the tribe of Boni hunters who live in the region.

Gazetted in 1976, the reserve was a sanctuary for the elephants during the dry season and had a large populace in the former Ijara and Lamu districts as well as Somalia.

Sadly, the reserve is slowly dwindling and the magical touch it once held is surely fading away. This has been majorly attributed to poaching leading to a vast reduction of the number of elephants in the reserve.

As much as the government is trying to bring to an end to the poaching menace, it is of utmost importance to come up with sustainable solutions so as to preserve the reserve.
