National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said Jubilee Party still enjoys massive support in North Eastern region despite the low turnout witnessed during Thursday’s repeat presidential poll.Duale said the repeat poll was different from the August 8 elections where governor, MPs and county assembly aspirants were rallying voters to vote for them and their preferred presidential candidates. The Garissa Township MP claimed some of the voters saw no need to vote since President Uhuru Kenyatta had no competitor after NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga opted to withdraw from the race.“Jubilee Party is well-liked in the region. All three governors, senators, women representatives and a majority of MPs and members of the county assembly were chosen on a Jubilee ticket,” said Duale.Duale further attributed the low turnout to the heavy rains that were experienced in the region on election day.He said the region experienced heavy downpour for two days which also hindered the delivery of election materials in some regions. The lawmaker said the region had been affected by drought since early this year which forced most families to move away from their homes in search of food and pasture for their livestock.“Heavy rains experienced in the region affected voter turnout which also affected the delivery of election materials,” said Duale.Garissa Township Returning Officer Boru Duba said only 28.4 percent of the 54,316 registered voters turn out to vote in the repeat presidential elections.
