Garissa town is a beehive of shopping activities as Muslims flocked to various shopping outlets within the town to shop for Eid ul Fitr celebrations.
Traders seized the opportunity to hike price tags on various household items, especially the foodstuffs that are favourite to Muslims.
Due to the importance of the festival to the Muslim community, the faithfuls had no option but to contend with the new prices as the celebration has a great significance in their religious calendar.
Adhan Tawakal, a businessman in Garissa town says that his business has recorded a record in sales over the past few days.
“For the last three consecutive days, I have had major increase in sales. I have sold various kinds of materials, especially food items,” he said.
However, the town is expected to record an influx of shoppers as the day of the Eid-il-Fitr draws nearer.
On Tuesday evening, chief kadhi, Sheikh Mudhar Ahmed announced the end of the Holy Month after the moon was spotted in various places across the country.
