More than a month after the market fire in Garissa that brought down the Garissa Market and cost 1,400 traders their business; the traders are finally finding their feet and rebuilding the stores.
The businessmen have blamed the spread of the fire to lack of access roads, and are demanding a better network of the same.
The traders have also refused to have hawkers build their stands in from of their stalls or anywhere near them, as they look to stand from the ashes of the tragedy.
The fire destroyed property worth an estimated Sh120 million, and many are yet to start rebuilding owing to lack of funds.
The shop owners are insisting that the roads should be cleared in case of such an eventuality in future.
Vendors have expressed frustration over the matter, and want the government to intervene and help them, as the market is the only source of livelihood.
The business people want the government to set up designated places for the hawkers, which will decongest the market.
The market is said to have been set on fire shortly after the gubernatorial results were announced, with no culprit arrested up to now.
This is not the first time the market has been consumed by an inferno, with a similar incident happening last year.
