An MP from Kitui has put on notice tycoons from Garissa and Nairobi County who are invading their lands looking for pasture.

Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai said the tycoons send their large herds of camel, cows and goats in his constituency to graze and they clash with residents over the little pasture and water available.

Mr Mbai said the herders are not welcome in his constituency as they were the ones causing conflicts in the county with the local herders.

According to Mr Mbai, the tycoons have previously shot and killed some residents in the area over pasture and water adding that they have depleted pasture and water with their large herds of camel, cows and goats.

He said the tycoons’ herders and their animals should not be allowed to enter the county in order to live peacefully and stop the constant conflicts which have led to the loss of human lives.

“Rich owners of thousands of camels, who live in opulence in Nairobi and Garissa, should know their herders and animals are not welcome in Kitui.”

“The herders have depleted pasture and water with their large herds of camel, cows and goats. Previously, they have shot and killed some residents due to conflict over pasture and water,” said the MP who was speaking in Inganzo, Endau-Malalalani ward.
