Garissa University College on Sunday marked two years since the institution was attacked by Al Shabaab militia on April 2, 2015.
The staff, students and Kenyans at large came together to remember the loss of 148 people following one of the most horrible attacks in the history of this nation.
The attack, which left other seventy-nine people injured, occurred at around 5:30 am after armed gang members of the terrors group raided the institution.
College Principal Ahmed Warfa has confirmed that strict security measures have been put in place in and around the institution.
The college has 42 police officers manning its different corners 24/7. The security personnel have also installed biometric identification device at the institution’s entrance to bar strangers from accessing the place.
One of the staffers who spoke on condition of anonymity asked the administration to do away with the anniversaries, arguing that they bring bad memories to the students and other persons who are yet to come in terms with the reality of losing their loved ones.
“The anniversaries traumatize students and scare away those considering enrolling at the college. They should gradually be done away with to give the university closure to move on,” he said, as quoted by Star.
