This is according to Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Nathan Ongach, who was speaking to journalists at the institution on Tuesday.

Ongach said that the university received 550 students, whom he said need well-wishers’ support to be able to continue with their studies as many come from poor backgrounds.

“They need clothing and most important of all they need money that will go towards buying them food so that they will be able to continue with their new life here,” said Ongach.

“In terms of support, we realized that two-thirds of them require a lot of counselling because they are still traumatized,” he added.

Ongach was speaking when he received Sh200,000 donation and items of similar value from three athletes: Lorna Kiplagat, Alfred Kirwa and Daisy Kiplagat.

“We heard the problems that the students are going through and we decided to lend a helping hand. We appeal to other well-wishers to do the same,” said Kiplagat.
