During the deadly attack on April 2, 2015, Al-Shabaab militants stormed the institution at dawn killing 148 people, majority of them students.
The institution’s principal Prof. Ahmed Warfa told the press on Friday that a number of security measures had been put in place to secure the institution.
The police post that is located in the institution is manned by 42 officers round the clock, and the institution has also installed a bio-metric identification device to identify the staff and students entering the institution.
Warfa said that the perimeter wall under construction would be ready by latest May, noting that 80 percent of the work is complete.
Among the raft of measures the institution has put in place to ensure security of the students in the hostels include removal of all window grills to enable them easy escape in case of an emergency.
Prof. Warfa said that the institution has incorporated lectures on radicalization that he said were aimed at assisting the students to cope with what happened two years ago.
“This is to ensure that the students are not brain-washed by radical groups who are now targeting university students,” he said.
The current admission of the university stands at 585 with 200 being residential.
