A Garissa youth who was a victim of unwarranted police kidnappings in North Eastern has finally been released following a social media hashtag that demanded for his immediate release.
Aden Ahmed Korio had been arrested without trial by the police under unclear circumstances.
The twitter hashtag was picked by Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi, who graciously represented Korio on a pro bono, a legal case that might have otherwise cost the the victim's family millions of shillings.
Lately, unwarranted abductions and extrajudicial killings have been on the rise, with the main targets being Muslim youths from the Coastal and North Eastern regions.
It is just last week that at-least 21 youths drawn from Garissa, Mandera and Isiolo counties were arrested by anti-terrorism police with their whereabouts remaining unknown.
The arrests compelled a section of Muslim Sheikhs to openly call on the government to put the youths on trial while at the same time informing the affected families of the whereabouts and the well being of the minor sons.
