Women leaders in Garissa County have urged politicians to hold peaceful campaigns in the county.
According to Rukia Mohamed, women and children suffer the most when there is political violence, hence calling on politicians to stop inciting voters and instead preach peace.
“Aggression against communities won’t help anyone. We came out as women to preach peace among residents in Garissa because nothing is more important than coexistence. Without peace, there will be no development. We are saying Garissa is bigger than any politician,” she said.
They urged locals in popular joints, including Livestock Market, to live in harmony, adding that politicians should watch what they say during political rallies.
“Whoever becomes governor, Mp and MCA is our brother and sister. Elections are a one-day affair,” Mohamed said.
Rukia Hassan called on the security team in the county to provide women aspirants with extra security because they are more vulnerable to attacks than their men counterparts.
This comes as aspirants in different camps intensify their campaigns in the county where politics is based on clan affiliation rather than issues.
