The women led by Garissa county Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Qureisha Mohamed urged Kenyans to hold peaceful protest adding that the country will still remain after elections.
Ms Mohamed said that it is painful to lose saying we should exercise our constitutional right by protesting peacefully and not destroy each other’s property.
She appealed to Opposition leader Raila Odinga and all those aggrieved by the polls’ outcome to seek peaceful means of resolving any issues they have saying the country cannot afford to go back to the dark days just because of a disputed election.
Ms Mohamed urged the losers to seek redress from the court if they are aggrieved from the electoral body’s declaration on who won the August General Elections.
“Election is an emotive issue. There are losers and winners, but at the end of the day we are all Kenyans. Those who won should avoid unnecessary celebrations in the streets as this would hurt losers.”
“The election is over and those who feel they were unfairly beaten should seek court redress. Street protests and destruction of property will not resolve disputed polls,” said the women chairperson.
Ms Mohamed further urged the government to monitor social media users out to incite Kenyans to violence.
