Young people in Garissa county have been urged to join youth polytechnics to acquire relevant technical skills required in the competitive job market.
Governor Nathif Jamaa said the current number of enrollment at the polytechnics is worrying and may spell doom to the country's ambition to attain a middle income status.
Jama was speaking during a graduation ceremony for 163 students from the Garissa Youth Polytechnic.
The governor said that the county had waived all fees for all youths enrolling in the Polytechnics as well as prioritising those graduating from these polytechnics when carrying out employment.
He faulted the perception of area youths that polytechnics were for academic failures thus shunning them and called on parents and religious leaders to engage in a sensitisation campaign to lure more youths in joining the institutions.
