Transport has been disrupted after a section of Garissa–Malindi Highway was washed away by floods. Motorists have now been asked to avoid the road until the situation reverts to normal.
According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), said that the road was cut off following heavy rains in Kitui over the weekend.
The raging floods washed away the Madogo–Bura Road leaving commuters stranded. The authority has also road users to seek for other ways of transport as they wait for water levels to go down.
“KeNHA will undertake remedial works in order to restore traffic along the highway once the water levels subside. We urge all motorists to exercise caution during this rainy season being experienced in various parts of the country,” a statement from the authority said.
The residents of the region have been calling up the county and national governments to assist them as the rains continue to hit different regions across the nation.
Garissa has been one of the most affected regions following the onset of the rains. The leaders have also been on the forefront in suggesting different measures to remedy the situation amid heavy rains.
