Garissa residents have been warned against assisting aliens who are seeking to get identity cards.

Garissa County Commissioner Mr.Harun Rashid Khatoor blamed the resident of Garissa for assisting the aliens who are seeking ID cards by proving them copy of ID card as a parent. He said these have become a challenge to the vetting committee to identify who is a refugee and who is real a Kenyan.

Speaking at Garissa primary school during Jamhuri Day celebration Mr. Khatoor said that from now henceforth those applying ID cards must come with their parents adding if incase the parents died they must come with valid death certificate and an old person who can explain where and when the parent died.

Harun said issuing ID card will continue across the county and the applicant must adhere the new rules in order to make sure those getting this crucial document are the real citizens.

These came when many youth from Garissa and other part of North Eastern  are unable to get job or go further studies or even unable to travel to the other part the country due to lack of Identification Card.

The resident of Nothern region mostly blamed the vetting committe specially chiefs for taking bribes from aliens and giving them ID cards which resulted many locals failing to get this important document since they are not willing to give out bribes or don’t have that money.
