Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has vowed to continue with the fight to eliminate alcohol and drug abuse in her constituency.
The MP who spoke on Friday in Ruiru Town said that drug abuse remains one of the biggest challenges the Kiambu County administration faces.
Gathogo said that fighting drug abuse among the youths will be a gateway to fighting unemployment and poverty. She observed that many youths have been lured into drug abuse and other unlawful activities due to the rising cases of unemployment in the area.
“We are going to work with other leaders across Kiambu County to fight drug abuse and other issues facing young people. We cannot let our generation rot in drugs,” said Gathogo.
She said for the problem to be effectively fought, leaders from the county must work together. She added that through various programmes initiated by the national and county governments, drug abuse will soon be a thing of the past.
The legislator added that no development can be realised if appropriate measures are not taken to curb drug abuse.
The MP advised that unemployment will reduce if only young people start using available opportunities like Youth and Uwezo Funds being provided by the government.
She and noted that the government is keen to create employment opportunities for the young people as earlier promised when they were campaigning.
