Residents of Gatuanyaga Ward in Thika sub county have accused Governor William Kabogo, Thika MP Alice Nga’ng’a and MCA Cecilia Wamaitha of allegedly failing to improve the state of roads in the area.
The locals lament that most roads in the area are in deplorable condition despite promises by their leaders that they will be renovated and upgraded.
The residents accuse Governor Kabogo and Ng’ang’a of taking them for granted and ignoring their plight.
On Wednesday they staged demonstrations paralysing business for hours in the area said that poor road infrastructure is hampering their businesses.
The locals cited the Thika- Munyu road which they claimed is in a deplorable state.
"Governor Kabogo should explain to us why it hard for his government to improve our roads," said a resident who sought anonymity for fear of intimidation.
According to the residents, Sh70 Million was set aside for the renovation and upgrade of the Thika-Munyu road five months ago but no construction has commenced.
“The county government is taking us for granted, we have appealed for repair and renovation of our roads but nothing is being done,” John Kimani, a resident.
The locals hit out at the government accusing it of failing to deliver on infrastructure development four years since it took office.
It took the intervention of Thika East DCC Christopher Wanjau to calm the demonstrators. The locals have now threatened to boycott paying taxes until when their pleas will be addressed.
According to Kiambu County Minister for Transport Engineer Njeri Gatabaki, repair of all roads is ongoing. The Minister says that the county government intends to repair all roads before the end of the year.
She states that adequate funds have been set aside for infrastructure development. Kiambu government four months ago signed a partnership with a foreign Israel company to renovate roads using an enzyme technology.
