Residents of Gatuanyaga Ward in Thika Sub County have complained over rising cases of crime and want the police to hunt down the criminals.

According to the locals, cases of crime are rising in the area.

The residents allege existence of criminal gangs which they say are behind a series of robberies in the area.

Speaking to this writer on Wednesday, Joseph Njehia, a shop owner at Gatuanyaga trading center narrated on how criminals allegedly walk free in the area.

He alleged that two cases of shops being broken into and property stolen have been reported in last three weeks.

“We are forced to close our businesses early for fear of the goons roaming and causing havoc in this area,” he said.

Mr Njehia stated that despite police patrols in the area crime still remains a serious problem.

Joan Kawira, a vegetable vendor at the town center said that some cases of crime are committed during the day.

“The thugs are so daring that they can rob you during then day and nothing will be done,” she alleged, adding that there is need for intensive security patrols.

Ms Kawira said that most vegetable close their work early to avoid being robbed.

She urged the police to streamline security in the area for them (locals) to do their business without fear.

Reacting to the security concerns area OCPD Francis Muthamia urged the locals to report criminal cases to the police.

He said that most cases of crime are not being reported making it difficult for law enforcers to act.

The OCPD  assured residents of police commitment to fight crime adding that police will intensify patrols and surveillance across the area.
