[Photo/Muranga County Forum]A cloud of disbelief and grief has engulfed Gathukiini village of Kiharu Constituency following the brutal murder of a 54-year-old woman.Purity Rwamba, a Gatuanyaga, Thika East resident, according to close neighbors, was allegedly hacked to death by her lover who repeatedly hit her with a blunt object."She had just left the house where she has been working as a domestic worker before her assailant pounced on her from his hideout. He hit her at the back of her head and I suspect he did it in the presence of her two sons," Leah Wanjiru, a witness said on Monday. The assailant is said to have threatened the kids before telling them to go and report to their relatives about the murder. Her employer, Emily Wangari, was among the first people to arrive at the scene of the murder where she expressed disbelief."She was a humble and peace-loving woman and I wonder why someone would take her life away just like that. Rwamba introduced Mureithi (suspect) to me by as her husband. I, however, noted that their relationship was shaky as they used to disagree often," said Wangari.Wangari adds that the killer husband kept claiming that the deceased wife owed him some money and even threatening to kill her, a matter that had already been reported to the area chief."This is very unfortunate that their disagreement has ended up tragically. The suspect is still at large but the police are doing everything possible to apprehend him. I appeal to residents to volunteer any information that may lead to the apprehension of this murderous criminal," said area Assistant chief Peter Muhia on Monday.Robert Kibe, who had at one time had employed the suspect as a shamba-boy described him as one who is hot-tempered and saying the couple had serious marital differences. The deceased's body was taken to Thika Level Five Hospital Mortuary.
