The team affirmed full implementation of Nyumba Kumi Initiative where the chiefs were urged to be on the front line in making the initiative a success.

Led by area elders chairperson, Johnston Muthama, the elders agreed that insecurity is real in the area hence need to beef up security.

“We cannot sit and watch terrorists invading our area. We must think beyond having police officers with us. Nyumba Kumi Initiative is a great deal in curbing insecurity and since we have chiefs with us, they must now implement the initiative,” said Muthama.

Residents were also urged to report any suspected criminals and strangers who tend to lure residents into getting casual jobs.

“We are also going to involve our officers, night patrols will now resume in order to ensure criminals are off Gatundu. I personally embrace the implementation of Nyumba Kumi initiative and I pledge to work with my police to make sure our residents are secure,” said Peter Gakuru, Gathaiti chief.

The area MPs who were expected in the meeting did not turn up but instead sent their representatives who promised to work together to fight insecurity.
