Farmers have been asked to come together and form Co-operatives as a way of ensuring that brokers do not deprive them. Speaking during a farmers' meeting in Nyamang'ara, Gatundu North on Thursday, Francis Kamondo, the Chairman of Nyaka Farmers Co-operative asked the members to continue sticking together to reduce the cost of farming in the area. "To gain maximum benefit from our livestock and crop farming, we have to continue marketing our products together. Am also appealing to Governor Kabogo to help us boost the irrigation project that we have here so that we can do farming throughout,” said Kamondo. Mang'u MCA Samuel Gashihi, who was also in attendance said that the brokers' time is over, saying he will do everything to ensure famers benefit from their hard work. "I have heard the farmers’ cry and complaints, and I assure them when I go back to our Kiambu headquarters, I will ensure that their voice is heard,” said Gashihi. He promised to bring a legislation that will ensure that the brokers are regulated and do not deprive farmers.
