The family of John Kuria Gitau says that James Gichamba had gone to work in the war torn country when he was kidnapped and the kidnappers are now demanding for a Sh 90 million ransom to release the two.

The family told journalists at their home on Tuesday that the money is far away beyond their reach.

"The kidnappers have been calling us, but the ransom they are demanding is too much for us. Our only hope is the government which we hope will be able to take up this case and give us back our son," said Kuria, the father.

The family has said that they have been living in fear as they do not know what may happen to their loved ones if they are unable to meet the kidnappers' demand.

Gichamba's mother has said that they were contemplating selling their shamba but they shelved the idea as it would not fetch anything close to what the kidnappers are demanding.

The family now urges the government to intervene as soon as possible before anything bad happens to the two.
