Chiefs in Gatundu North Sub-County have been cautioned against involvement in active politics.
The chiefs were instead urged to serve residents diligently and impartially ahead of the 2017 general elections.
Speaking at Gituamba social hall on Wednesday, Gatundu North Sub-County Commissioner, Daniel Nyamiti, said the electioneering period is usually very sensitive and administrators should perform their duties impartially and with a sober mind.
The police boss said chiefs were the eyes of the national government in their respective areas of jurisdiction and were, by law, prohibited from taking active roles in politics.
“I urge you to serve residents efficiently and effectively despite the prevailing economical and socio-political differences,” he said.
He also urged them to work together with the residents to ensure they root out the social ills affecting people in the area.
The commissioner urged local leaders to support him in articulating and implementing government policies in the area by submitting their reports in time, ensuring security in all areas and avoiding receiving bribes in a bid to allow certain outlawed activities to take place.
“I also urge you to support my work by ensuring you do not take bribes to allow crimal activities in your areas of jurisdiction. This way, you will be able to submit your monthly reports without delays,” he said.
Nyamiti asked residents to maintain peace and order in an effort to ease the responsibilities given to the administrators as well as helping them maintain order.
