[Photo: Facebook ]Gatundu North residents have been urged to take advantage of the dry weather to start preparing for their land in advance before the long rains hit the ground beginning March.Gatundu North sub-county agricultural officer Elizabeth Mukora has said that this will ensure farmers plant their crops at the right time to ensure that they benefit from the rainwater which is predicted to be minimal this year."Residents may be glaring at a possibility of hunger because lately, farmers have not been making preparing their lands early to utilize the rainwater maximally," Mukora said in Gakoe market on Tuesday during a farmers' sensitization workshop. She urged the farmers to ensure that they take maximum advantage of the rains when they finally come.Mukora appealed to the county government to start providing farmers with quality planting materials to maximize harvests noting that yields in the area had gone down because of using poor quality seeds.“I request the government to start providing the farmers in this area and elsewhere with quality seeds and fertilizers to ensure that they have sufficient harvest for their consumption and sale,” said Mukora.Mukora further asked farmers to engage in good farming practices by consulting the field agricultural officers at their disposal. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kiambu that you want Hivisasa to cover?
