Gatundu North residents now want the government to carry out a special training for police officers on how to handle terrorists.
Speaking to the media, they argued that many of the security personnel in the country did not have any basic education on how to deal with terrorist when attacked.
The irked residents claimed that many panic and act out of fear when confronted by such situations.
“They need to be taught on what to do in case an armed terrorist appeared before them. It is unfortunate that they will find it hard to pick a terrorist from the crowd yet with proper training, they can be able to spot them from a crowd,” said Dickson Wainaina, a Mataara resident in Gatundu North.
His views were echoed by Mercy Mukami, who cited that many of the police officers could not even detonate a bomb.
“I am sure some do not even know how a bomb looks like. I feel that this should be included in their curriculum, especially now that Kenya is becoming a serious target for terrorists,” said Mukami.
Agnes Wairimu, from Gakoe in Gatundu North cited that the training should be included in their curriculum.
“In most developed countries, police are trained on how to deal with such tragedies. It is unfortunate that we lose some of our best when fighting terrorists,” added Wairimu.
