Speaking on Wednesday in his office in Igegania, Gatundu North Forestry Officer John Mahiuha, said many residents heeded their advice to plant trees.

A spot check in Chania, Githobokoni and Gituamba Wards revealed that farmers have indeed been engaging in tree planting in the past few days.

"So far, so good. I can say that residents have taken our challenge positively and are doing some good work on the ground,” said Mahiuha.

He added, "Our partnership with various environmental stakeholders in providing seedlings to farmers has also helped a lot.”

John Mwangi, a Gituamba resident, who has planted over 800 trees, among them blue gum and other indigenous trees said that trees are of great value.

"Trees have been of much value to me. I started a tree nursery in August when I heard there will be heavy rains. Most seedlings are ready for transplanting which I have already started,” said Mwangi.
