Gatundu North Member of Parliament (MP) Kigo Njenga was on Sunday heckled by crowd at a public rally in Githobokoni, Gatundu North over his alleged stand on construction of a dam in the area.
Residents led by Githobokoni Ward MCA Moses Kiarie said that Kigo has not been honest with the residents concerning the construction of the dam, claiming that the the project will lead to displacement of many people.
Other three MCAs from Gatundu North Sub-county were also in attendance and opposed the proposed project.
"As MCAs from this area, we will not let the MP to take us for granted. We will not allow land to be taken from the people unfairly,” said Kiarie.
When the rowdy crowd overpowered the speaker at the event, Police was forced to intervened to bring back order.
"There cannot be any meeting if this matter cannot be resolved without politicising it. Governor Kabogo must come here and listen to us,” said Kimani Gashihi, Mang'u Ward MCA.
However, Gatundu North Member of Parliament Kigo refuted the claims that he was in support of the project.
"I am going to court to stop Athi Water from building the dam here. Dams should be built in forests not here w”which will force people to be displaced to areas they might not like to be relocated to,” said Kigo.
