Gatundu North residents have every reason to smile after their MP Francis Kigo on Tuesday announced that they will benefit from cheap electricity. Kigo was speaking at Mang’u hall where he presided over the signing of World Bank and Gatundu North electricity deal 2015. According to Kigo, every resident will be required to pay Sh6, 000 for electricity installation which is far low compared to the previous Sh35, 000. ‘It’s in the Jubilee manifesto to make sure that every house hold has access to cheap electricity. Today we have signed a deal in partnership with the World Bank and Kenya Power that will see every resident of this area pay only Sh6, 000 for the full installation of electricity. The program will start early next month where registration will be done at the chief’s office,’ said Kigo. The MP stated that the project had worked in other constituencies like Gatundu South and Juja. According to World Bank representative, Benson Kamau, the deal will see the organization use Sh1.5 billion which will be released as soon as households register. “The national government will give Sh1.2 billion for the installation of electric cables in every household. The technical work will be facilitated by the word bank which has already agreed to partner with Sh1.5 billion and the rest will come from households,’ said Kigo. Residents were however put on task to embrace new technology that will create businesses in the area.
