Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has urged People Living with Disabilities (PWLD) in the constituency to apply government funds and start business enterprises that will empower them economically.

Speaking when he met disabled persons in Gatundu on Saturday, Kigo said that PLWD have the same chance of getting government funds just like other Kenyans.

“You (disabled persons) should not discriminate against yourselves, you should apply for the government funds and start business,” said Kigo.

The Gatundu legislator observed that most disabled persons in the constituency are shying away from government opportunities.

The lawmaker said the government taken seriously the rights and welfare of disabled persons and that they too should be active and embraces government help.

Kigo added that through such development funds, disabled persons will have an opportunity to better their living standards.

He said that disabled persons had been discriminated upon for long but it is their time to speak and fight for rights.

Kigo further urged PLWD t o seek leadership positions and take part in decision and policy making.

The MP vowed to push for the rights and empowerment of disabled persons in the National Assembly.
