Accompanied by Ahadi Trust Chairman Dr. Stanley Kamau, the duo said that scrapping off of Harambee would lead to heightened poverty, as well as sluggish development especially in rural areas.

The two, who were speaking in a church fundraiser on Sunday noted that many churches, schools and hospitals have been dependent on Harambee to develop their infrastructures.

“Harambees are here to stay. For example here we have Gatundu Hospital, which will be converted to a referral hospital and it is a product of harambee. So if anybody wants to stop Harambee, we will do a harambee to stop them,” said Kuria.

On his part, Kamau said that scrapping of harambees would result to poor children, who rely on them, missing education.

“If we do away with harambees, it will mean doom for this country. There is no other better way of raising funds for a particular cause than through a harambee. Some bright children might not realize their dreams if we stop harambees,” said Kamau.
