Students from needy families in Gatundu South have benefited from bursaries worth more Sh6 million.
The cheques were issued to students from both secondary schools and colleges.
Speaking from his office in Gatundu South during the issuing of the cheques on Monday, area Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairman, John Githongo said that Sh4 million will be issued to students in secondary schools.
He said the remaining Sh1.3 million will be divided among college students and Sh0.7 million will be issued to a group of students at Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology being sponsored by the CDF.
“Students came out in large numbers and applied for the funds through their area assistant chiefs. We had said that only applications that have gone through the assistant chiefs will be considered because the chiefs were in a better position of identifying needy students in the area,” said Githongo.
He encouraged needy students in the area to apply for the bursaries saying that no one will be turned down.
Githongo added that everyone has a right to education regardless of whether they come from a rich or poor background.
