Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, has urged schools in his constituency to make use of idle lands to engage in agriculture.
Kuria wants schools with big pieces of land to issue them to women groups, who can utilize them in agricultural activities, a move that will benefit both the schools and the women groups
Speaking at Karuguine primary school, on Thursday, where he presented cheques to 17 women groups, beneficiaries of the Gatundu South Uwezo Fund, Mr. Kuria said that he will be launching the first project, at the school ( Karuguine primary) which will see the school give them 10 acres of land.
"We want to cooperate with Inuka in rolling out the pilot for Maisha Kilimo Project in my constituency.
"The first project is set to start here at Karuguine primary school, where the school will give 10 acres of land to Kilimo project. I will then give out dairy cows, chicken as well as pigs, to these groups.
"I will also link them to a ready to ready markets for their products, including Brookside, Kenchic among others," said Mr. Kuria.
Mr. Kuria also added that such like projects and partnership in his constituency will enable schools to gather for small developments so that they are not so much dependent of CDF.
"This issue of looking for CDF money to repair a toilet in school should be forgotten," added Kuria
