Gay Kenyan writer Binyavanga Wainaina has announced that he will wed early next year.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, he said that he had proposed to his Nigerian male friend two weeks ago and he was quick to accept it.
“I asked my love for his hand in marriage two weeks ago. He said yes, nearly immediately. He is Nigerian. We will be living in South Africa, where he will be studying next year. We will get married there, early next year,” said Wainaina.
It is worth noting that Wainaina first went public in 2014 when he announced that he was gay, through an article he wrote.
The article titled "I am a homosexual, mum," was condemned by Kenyans, attracting the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta who asked him to calm down on the topic.
Wainaina also promised his fans that he will have a great reception in Nairobi so that they are not locked out in the celebrations.
"Nothing has surprised me more than coming to love with this person who is gentle and has a gorgeous heart. I consider myself hugely lucky that he loves me and I have only recently fallen in love with him, but we have known each other and have been dating on and off since 2012,” wrote the author.
