The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) in Nakuru is giving back to local communities where it is based at Menengai Crater.

Ranging from employment, water rehabilitation to food donation and health services, the company according to the communications and marketing manager Ruth Musembi, believes that all communities around the world have special needs and that is why the company is taking its corporate responsibilities a notch higher.

Situated in the heart of the famed Menengai Crater on the fridges of Nakuru town, the company is surrounded by both semi-urban and rural communities which are reaping the benefits of hosting a big organisation.

Musembi told this writer that the company has rehabilitated the local natural water sources to ensure the prevention of waterborne diseases. GDC also distributes tree seedlings to the locals towards environmental conservation purposes.

The company’s ambulance also provide services to the local Bahati Health Centre.

"Our blueprints are designed to enable the communities to participate in the geothermal economy either directly or indirectly,’’ said Musembi.

She added, “The company has so far employed more than a hundred local youth and professionals in various capacities. It also approves proposals from local Community Based Organisations (CBOs) to stir development in the field of environmental protection, health, education, food security and art and culture.
