Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC) has secured the lease area for the geothermal power generation project in Menengai for 40 years.
Speaking at the site, Managing Director Joseph Ole Nchoe said that Kenya Forest Service has granted them the rights and would go a long way to developing the project which is of national importance.
"The lease would give us an ample opportunity to develop the project fully which will impact immensely on the national social and economic revolution," he said.
He said that reports by independent consultants indicate the area has sufficient steam to generate 105 megawatts of electricity to the national electricity.
