The Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association (GEMA) has raised concerns over a recently published list of nominated Members of Uasin Gishu County Assembly (MCAs).
The association claims the list contains only members from the Kalenjin community yet Uasin Gishu is a cosmopolitan county.
Addressing the press in Eldoret, Thursday, GEMA National Organising Secretary Paul Kinyanjui warned that the list risks causing ethnic divisions in the county.
"It's a shame that the IEBC and Jubilee party allowed this kind of skewed nomination list. Uasin Gishu has almost all the communities and they ought to have been represented in the county Assembly at least through nominations," noted Mr Kinyanjui.
"Non-Kalenjins who are members of Jubilee party should move to court to challenge that list of nominated MCAs," he added.
The list of the 17 Uasin Gishu nominated MCAs was published in the Kenya Gazette on Tuesday, with Samora Machel being the only one nominated to represent the ethnic minority at the Assembly.
Uasin Gishu, with 450,055 registered voters is largely dominated by the Kalenjin community but has a substantial number of non-Kalenjin voters estimated to be about 180,000.
Out of the 30 elected MCAs, only three, Peter Chomba (Huruma), Francis Muya (Langas) and Kiplombe's Ali Werambo are non-Kalenjins.
