Speaking last week during an interview with Inooro TV, Waweru said that he was endorsed by the Gikuyu, Embu and Meru Association (GEMA) as the next Nairobi governor during an event that took place in Nairobi on Friday, September 2. He said this is contrary to the rumours doing the rounds that he is not interested in Nairobi politics but he is being used to mess the race.

“No one has paid me as the rumours are going round and I am confident enough that I will be the next Nairobi governor come 2017,” he said.

Already, Waweru and Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and TNA party chairman Johnson Sakaja have formed an informal alliance named Team B that is expected to endorse one principal candidate who will compete with the incumbent Evans Kidero.

The Nairobi county gubernatorial seat has attracted a big number of contenders among them Water and Irrigation Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
