Gender activist Dr Callen Nyamwage has challenged parents to educate their children who are yet to join campuses on morality.
Nyamwage, the director Institute of Gender Studies and Development at Kisii University, said in an interview on Friday that parents were responsible to mentor children while they are still with them at home so as to emulate good behavior as they join campuses and colleges.
This comes after she raised concerned about the prevalent campus freedom that leads to students engaging in acts such as unprotected sexual activities and drug abuse.
”The social aspects such as drugs and sex have been abandoned by most parents nowadays, yet campus students abuse them to the fullest without realising the adverse impact they have on their future,” she said.
Giving an example of Kisii University students, she noted that such acts curtailed dreams of most students, who realised when it is too late.
In addition, Dr Nyamwange called on clerics to speak up often against such vices to their congregation.
”The church occasionally speaks on matters such as sex claiming that they ought to be secret and sacred, yet young people even from the congregation are caught victims of illegal activities. Clerics should join parents for spreading morality to the youths,” she said.
