Nominated senator Judy sijeny's bill that aimed to have more women nominated to parliament suffered a blow when senators opposed to the bill skipped the votting session.
Opposition legislators were attending the Nasa rally at jevanjee gardens and failed to turn out for the crucial vote that would have seen an increase in the number of nominated women legislators.
Many women legislators were absent despite being aware of the voting that was on Wednesday.
The bill needed support from at least 45 senators to move to the next stage, but it was only supported by 23 out of 67 senators who were present during the voting time.
Senators Mutula kilonzo jr and kennedy Mongare pleaded with the speaker to defer the bill as it can only be reintroduced in the house after six months, but speaker Ekwe Ethuro turned down the requests.
