Machakos County will have the first ever Gender rescue and recovery center that will help victims of gender based violence within the county and from other counties.
In a meeting with a delegation of officers from Robertfors Municipality in Sweden, Machakos deputy governor Francis Maliti said that the purpose of the meeting was to pursue collaboration aimed at setting up a gender rescue and recovery centre in Machakos County for victims of gender based violence.
''The center will bring together teams of law enforcement, gender protective services professionals, prosecutors, medical and mental health providers, and victim advocates as well as center staff to respond to allegations of gender abuse, reduce trauma experienced by victims, assist their families, provide necessary support services, and allow thorough investigations,'' said Maliti.
Maliti further said that using a model known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, the Partnership’s counsellor’s focus on solutions that build upon the strengths and past successes in families of the victims.
The family and counsellor will work collaboratively in setting goals and recognize that making small changes leads to larger change.
The Sweden team that was in the meeting was composed of Karin Louise Ahnquist, Zorica Grubor, Ms. Sandra Brandstrom, Jan Ronnback and Sven Anderson.
I was joined by Machakos Education minister Ms. Faith Wathome, Chief Officer John Kilonzo among other county officers.
